Melody and the Pier to Forever

The Musicscape is a collection of (what else?) music that has inspired me, prodded me, balanced me, guided me in the creation of this story. Originally given as a gift to the girl (a real-life Melody) who helped to inspire the story in the first place, the Musicscape has since grown to become an invaluable, irreplaceable part of my life. Fantasy is, at first blush, that form of fiction designed to lead the reader away from his authentic, true experiences. And in fact that is how much of it is written and intended by its many authors: to seduce the reader, to provide an escape. Melody & the Pier to Forever is different. Much different. Ultimately, though this is a work of fantasy, the story will, inevitably, lead the reader deeper into him- or herself: to educe him or her, not seduce him or her. It is fantasy written for the heart, for the soul. The human soul: where the true adventures lie.

The songs are arranged purposefully, to provide muscle to either the characters or their circumstances. Sometimes to both. Sometimes the lyrics are spot-on, top to bottom (if there are lyrics); sometimes only a stanza in them is relevant. The flow and order of the music is oftentimes more important than the specific song or symphony itself: transitions in the Musicscape hence play a central role in the conveyance of mood and setting.

For members of this site, I'd be happy to send along any song that appears here in either MP3 or M4a format (depending on how they've been uploaded). There was a time in this nation when music was freely shared ("Hey, man, I got the new Zep album. It's awesome! You've got to listen to it! I'll drop it by later so you can put it on tape!"), when the music companies weren't so awash in dollar signs and corruption, when art--which transcends commerce whilst empowering it--was allowed to flourish and live. Such is not so in this day and age, though signs of collapse are now readily apparent: the traditional model of publishing is dying. And--thank God.
